The inspired life of reggae music

Reggae scenes consist of two guitars, one for rhythm and one for lead—drums, congas, and keyboards, with a couple vocalists. One of the most easily recognizable elements is offbeat rhythms; staccato chords played by a guitar or piano or both on the offbeats of the measure, often referred to as the skank. The reggae offbeat can be counted so that it falls between each count as an "and" example: This is in contrast to the way most other popular genres focus on beat one, the "downbeat".

Mighty Mystic: How Bob Marley Has Inspired My Life and Music

Your first exposure to music comes from your days singing in the church. It was a natural progression. Really because I come from a large family of 9 brothers and sisters. My mother sang all the time. And then growing up as second to last of 9, my brothers listened to reggae music.

My sisters listened to a lot of RnB stuff. My father listened to a lot of country and western music. My mother was into a lot of gospel. A lot of that is just the appreciation of the art of singing because singing to me is like my spiritual brother. Somebody that I take with me wherever I go.

Even as a child - when I look back - I used to crawl under my bed and just want to be alone sometimes. Whether I was happy, sad, whatever, I would call on my friend. My 9 brothers and sisters were the world. They were my first experience of meeting different people with different personalities.

But the common vibe was music.
